Celebrating our achievements in shaping Zambia's power sector through strategic advocacy, policy reform, and collaboration with government and industry stakeholders.
Since our establishment, the Association of Power Companies has been at the forefront of advocating for progressive policies and regulatory reforms that benefit the entire power sector. Through collaborative engagement with government, regulators, and industry stakeholders, we have achieved significant milestones that have transformed the energy landscape in Zambia.
Discover how our advocacy efforts have led to tangible policy changes and industry improvements

Successfully advocated for and implemented a streamlined single licensing system that simplifies the regulatory process for power companies. This one-stop shop approach has significantly reduced bureaucratic delays and improved efficiency in the licensing process.
Led successful advocacy efforts to establish open access policies in transmission and distribution networks, promoting fair competition and enabling multiple players to participate in the energy market. This achievement has fostered a more competitive and efficient power sector.

advocated for the implementation of net metering regulations, allowing consumers to generate their own electricity and feed excess power back to the grid. This milestone has encouraged renewable energy adoption and empowered consumers to become prosumers.
Successfully negotiated and secured a waiver on road toll fees for the transportation of specialized wind energy equipment, reducing project logistics costs and facilitating the development of wind power infrastructure in Zambia.

Attained duty-free concessions on geothermal energy equipment and solar panels, significantly reducing the cost of renewable energy projects. This achievement has accelerated the deployment of clean energy technologies across Zambia.

Achieved a landmark policy victory with Statutory Instrument No. 41, which waived mini-grid licensing requirements. This has enabled rapid deployment of mini-grid solutions in rural and remote areas, expanding electricity access to underserved communities.

Successfully advocated against the de-dollarization policy, securing a formal exemption for the production and trading of electricity. This intervention safeguarded the financial viability of power producers and traders, preserved the bankability of existing and planned projects, and ensured continued investment and market stability within the electricity sector.

Provide duty relief for machinery and equipment required for transmission and distribution of electricity;

Increase the period to 10 years from 7 years in which a business in hydroelectricity generation can claim a refund on vat incurred on eligible goods before the commencement of commercial operations.
Our achievements demonstrate the power of collective advocacy and strategic engagement. By working together, we continue to shape policies that promote sustainable energy development, attract investment, and ensure a reliable power supply for all Zambians.
Continuing to advocate for policies that accelerate Power development and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
Promoting investment in smart grid technologies and infrastructure upgrades for improved reliability and efficiency.
Enhancing technical expertise and knowledge sharing through workshops, training, and research initiatives.
Strengthening partnerships with regional power associations to share best practices and foster cross-border energy trade.
